Games (to give you the fear!)

Posted on May 28th, 2005

Recently I have recommended many games to many people: instead, let them come here, and see the definitive list, which also serves as Sheldon’s Best Games Ever List:

1. Planescape Torment. (The best written, best thought out game ever)
2. Deus Ex (This game is just dripping with intelligence and good writing)
3. Fallout 2 (One of the best worlds ever)
4. Baldur’s Gate Series
5. Anachronox
6. Morrowind
7. Mafia
8. Max Payne 2
9. Kotor 2 (If it had been finished, would likely have been higher)
10. World of Warcraft (the ultimate MMORPG)
11. System Shock 2 (too dated now, but the precuser to many great things)
12. Kingdom of Loathing

Read their reviews at the best review site on the internets.

    Damn. Best Theme Ever.

When I get some time off I plan to sit down and enter Planescape Torment.

I can only agree with this list in part because I haven’t played many of these titles (Planescape Torment, Baldur’s Gate, Anachronox, KOTOR 2, System Shock 2). I didn’t really get to play WOW either.

But damn, Mafia, I mean where did that game come from? Bam! I was totally unprepared for how good it was. Who was it made by? Have they done any other titles? Hopefully they haven’t gone the way of Black Isle.

Its amazing what removing a border can do. Anyway, I’ve played none of those games. So yeah. Not much to say really. I toy with the idea of posting my own list on db.rs in retaliation but its like, so 90s, you know?

Go for it, db. I forgot to put Duke 3D on this list. That game owned my soul for years. And thinking about it, it seems that it was probably the most innovative game ever.

I envy you, Azrael. I’ve played these games about sixty times. You have some awesome gaming to look forward to :)

Mafia was made by Illusion Softworks, who also made Hidden & Dangerous and Vietcong. Two disappointingly crap games :(

Curious. I downloaded the full version of Hidden & Dangerous for free and never played it. From what I remember of Hidden & Dangerous 2 the game wasn’t poor but was like asparagus. Probably not bad for you, but not for me thanks.

Vietcong I actually took the time to play through, it had its moments, crucially in places it was hard. Palm-sweatingly, intense hard where you were muttering “Damn. Why aren’t you dead already! DIE dammit” Vietcong had some awesome bugs though.

Dude, you’re totally missing out! Asparagus rolls are one of life’s true pleasures.

Private: Games (to give you the fear!)

After too many recommendations of computer games, here is a list of the games which changed everything, or have the potential to. It’s also Sheldon’s Best Games Ever List:

10. World of Warcraft
WOW is the point at which all MMO’s converge. DAoC, EQ, CoH and various other clones put there own spin on the hack/slash/level style of gameplay, but WoW has taken it to it’s absolute limit. Nearly everything about it is perfect. It’s good to see that because of it, we’re starting to see some other styles of MMO’s apart from typical RPG’s – games like Auto Assault
